Post Doctoral Research Associate

Post Doctoral Research Associate in Cancer Systems Biology

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in computational and spatial systems biology of tumor microenvironments is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shikhar Uttam in the Department of Computational and Systems Biology and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at University of Pittsburgh. It will integrate multiplexed imaging with computational biology and bioinformatics to study cancer systems biology of tumor microenvironments. The research will draw from diverse disciplines including image analysis, machine learning, mathematical modeling, bioinformatics, and cancer biology, and will be executed through multi-disciplinary collaborations.

Uttam Lab, a hybrid dry/wet lab, is seeking competitive candidates who have recently earned a Ph.D. degree in systems biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Experience in image processing and analysis, graph theory and machine learning, and systems biology are required. Experience working with multidimensional imaging datasets, fluorescence microscopy, bioinformatic sequence analysis (DNA/RNA), and mathematical modeling of biological systems is highly desirable. Wet-lab experience will be a strong plus. The candidate must possess excellent written and verbal English communication skills. The salary is commensurate with experience and based on current NIH guidelines. Additionally, the candidate may be eligible for a Hillman Postdoctoral Fellowship for Innovative Cancer Research.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is ranked #5 in NIH funding, and Pittsburgh has been consistently voted as one of the top livable cities in the US.

Interested candidates can first directly contact Dr. Uttam via email with their CV, a one page summary of their research background and interests, together with the names and contact information of three references. They will also be required to apply to the position  at the University of Pittsburgh’s Talent Center by submitting the above mentioned documents. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on an ongoing basis, following the receipt of all required materials.
